Before Your Treatment

Preparing for Anti-Wrinkle Injections

A little preparation helps reduce bruising, improve comfort and ensure your treatment settles as evenly as possible.

Anti-wrinkle injections require very little preparation, but a few simple steps create the best possible experience and outcome. Most clients return to normal activities immediately after treatment.

If you're unsure about any of the advice below, please contact Layali Clinic before your appointment.

Important: never stop prescribed medication without first speaking to your GP or prescribing healthcare professional.

Understanding your treatment

Anti-wrinkle injections work by temporarily relaxing specific facial muscles. The treatment does not work immediately — results develop gradually over approximately 2 weeks, which is exactly why planning your treatment around important events is essential.

◆

One week before

Reduce your risk of bruising

Why: these thin the blood, so the tiny injection points are more likely to bruise. Only where medically appropriate, and never stop anything prescribed without your doctor's approval.

Medicines

  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen
  • Naproxen
  • Anti-inflammatory medication
  • Blood thinners (only with your doctor's approval)

Supplements

  • Fish oil & Omega-3
  • Vitamin E
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • High-dose garlic / ginger
  • Turmeric supplements

Pain relief

  • Paracetamol is usually suitable if needed
  • Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen purely for treatment discomfort unless advised by your doctor
◆

Previous anti-wrinkle treatment

Why: this helps us plan your treatment safely and accurately, and avoid over-treating.

Please tell us if you

  • Have had anti-wrinkle injections within the last 12 weeks
  • Have previously had poor results
  • Have previously experienced eyelid drooping
  • May have developed resistance to treatment
  • Have had treatment elsewhere recently
◆

Vaccinations & illness

Why: recent immune activity or infection can affect healing — we may recommend delaying until you've fully recovered.

Please inform us if you've recently

  • Had a vaccination
  • Had COVID-19
  • Had flu-like symptoms
  • Been prescribed antibiotics
  • Experienced an infection
◆

48 hours before

Please avoid

  • Alcohol
  • Intense exercise
  • Excessive sun exposure

Why: these increase circulation, bruising and temporary swelling.

◆

Event planning

One of the most common mistakes is booking treatment too close to an important event — anti-wrinkle injections need time to develop.

Allow ~2 weeks before

  • Weddings
  • Holidays
  • Photoshoots
  • Public speaking events
  • Special occasions
  • Important work meetings

This lets your final result fully develop and leaves time for a review appointment if needed.

Preparing for your specific treatment

The advice above applies to every treatment. A few areas have a little extra to know — only the ones relevant to you matter.

Masseter / jaw slimming

This treats a strong, deep muscle. The slimming effect develops slowly over several weeks, so book well ahead of any event. Please tell us if you have jaw clicking, locking, pain or dental problems, as these may need a dental check first.

Excess sweating (hyperhidrosis)

For the 24 hours before

  • Do not shave the area (underarms) — freshly shaved skin is more easily irritated
  • Avoid antiperspirant or deodorant on the day, so the area can be assessed and prepped
  • Arrive with clean, dry skin

Underarm treatment involves a number of tiny injections across the area — this is completely normal.

Nefertiti lift (neck & jawline)

Please tell us in advance about any neck weakness, previous neck surgery, swallowing difficulty or voice changes, as these affect whether this treatment is suitable.

Tinkerbell nose-tip

Arrive with clean skin and no makeup on the nose. Let us know about any previous nasal surgery, nasal filler/threads or difficulty breathing through your nose.

◆

On the day of treatment

Please do

  • Eat normally & stay hydrated
  • Arrive with clean skin
  • Remove eye makeup if treating crow's feet
  • Arrive relaxed & on time
  • Bring any questions you have

Please avoid

  • Heavy makeup over the treatment areas
  • Alcohol beforehand
  • Arriving unwell
  • Arriving straight after intense exercise
◆

Smoking & vaping

Smoking and vaping may affect skin quality and accelerate the ageing process. Although they don't prevent treatment from working, reducing nicotine use where possible supports overall skin health and your long-term results.

Please tell us before your appointment if you

  • Are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding
  • Have a neuromuscular condition (e.g. Myasthenia Gravis, Lambert-Eaton, Multiple Sclerosis)
  • Feel unwell or have an infection
  • Have started new medication or recently had antibiotics
  • Have recently had a vaccination
  • Have previously reacted to botulinum toxin
  • Have experienced complications from previous treatment
If in doubt, it's always safer to call us — we may simply rebook you to a better time. Layali Clinic: 07787 708200.

Our priority is your safety

Anti-wrinkle injections are an elective treatment. If we believe treatment is not in your best interests on the day, we may postpone it until it can be performed safely. Your safety will always come before proceeding.

A final reminder

Please remember

  • Results are not immediate
  • Results develop gradually over approximately 14 days
  • Bruising is possible
  • A review appointment may be recommended
  • Natural-looking results are often the best results

We look forward to welcoming you to Layali Clinic.
