Good preparation may help to
- Reduce bruising
- Reduce swelling
- Keep your skin calm & healthy
- Lower the risk of complications

Important: never stop prescribed medication without first speaking to your GP or prescribing healthcare professional. If you're unsure about any advice below, please contact us before your appointment.
◆
About one week before
Reduce your risk of bruising
Why: these thin the blood, which makes bruising at the injection points more likely. Only where medically appropriate — and never stop anything prescribed without your doctor's approval.
Medicines (only with doctor's approval)
- Blood thinners (e.g. warfarin, clopidogrel) — never stop without your doctor
- Aspirin
- Ibuprofen
- Naproxen
- Other anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs)
Supplements
- Fish oil & Omega-3
- Vitamin E
- Ginkgo biloba
- High-dose garlic
- High-dose ginger
- Turmeric supplements
You may continue
- Paracetamol, if you need pain relief
- Any medication your doctor has told you to keep taking
Pause strong skincare actives
Why: active ingredients increase skin sensitivity. Pausing them for a few days before helps your skin tolerate the treatment better.
Temporarily stop a few days before
- Retinol, retinal & tretinoin
- Glycolic & salicylic acid
- Exfoliating products & scrubs
- Strong active ingredients
No other treatments in the area shortly before
Why: your skin needs to be calm and undamaged so it can heal cleanly and the product can settle evenly.
Please avoid in the same area beforehand
- Facials & aggressive facials
- Chemical peels
- Waxing
- Laser or IPL
- Microneedling
- Other injectables in the same area
◆
48 hours before
Avoid alcohol
- Increases bruising
- Increases swelling
- Increases inflammation
- Slows recovery
Hydrate well
- Drink plenty of water (unless medically advised otherwise)
- Well-hydrated skin responds better to a hydration treatment
Why: alcohol thins the blood and inflames tissue, making bruising and swelling more likely. Good hydration supports healthy, plump skin.
Also helpful
- Prioritise sleep — it supports healing and skin health
- Eat well and avoid excessive salt (which encourages puffiness)
◆
On the day of treatment
Please do
- Arrive with clean skin & no make-up on the treatment area
- Eat a proper meal beforehand (helps prevent feeling faint)
- Drink plenty of water
- Wear comfortable clothing
- Allow extra time so you arrive relaxed
Please avoid
- Make-up, SPF, serums & moisturisers on the area
- Fake tan on the area
- Alcohol
- Heavy caffeine on an empty stomach
- Strenuous exercise just beforehand
Coming with clean, bare skin means we can cleanse and treat the area safely and hygienically.

Planning around events
Straight after treatment you'll usually have small raised bumps ("blebs") at each injection point for around 24–48 hours, and possibly mild redness, swelling or a little bruising.
Best to leave a clear window before
- Weddings
- Important events & occasions
- Professional photography
- Holidays
- Anything where you'll want flawless make-up
As a guide, allow at least a few days — ideally a week — between your treatment and any big occasion, so any small bumps or bruising have fully settled.
When to postpone — contact us first if you
- Feel unwell or have a fever
- Develop a cold sore, infection or broken skin in the area
- Become pregnant
- Start new medication
- Have had recent dental treatment, surgery or another aesthetic treatment
- Develop a rash, cold or any illness
If in doubt, always contact us before your appointment — in many cases we can simply move it to a safer time.
Our priority is your safety
If we believe treatment is not in your best interests on the day, we may postpone it until it can be performed safely. Your safety will always come before proceeding.
