Looking in the mirror and noticing…

  • Cheeks and temples that have lost their fullness
  • A face that looks a little tired or "deflated"
  • A softer, less defined jawline
  • Crêpey skin on the neck, chest or thighs
  • Buttocks that have lost shape and lift

These changes often come down to one thing: collagen loss. From our mid-20s we lose collagen every year, and it's collagen that keeps skin firm, plump and supported.

Sculptra doesn't just "fill" — it prompts your body to make its own new collagen. The result builds gradually and looks entirely natural, because it is you.

Stimulates your own collagen Gradual & natural Long-lasting

What exactly is Sculptra?

Sculptra (and the similar product Lanluma) is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) — a safe, biocompatible material that has been used in medicine for decades, including in dissolvable surgical stitches. It is injected as a fine suspension into the deeper layers of the skin or soft tissue.

How it works — the key difference

  • PLLA acts as a collagen stimulator, not a space-filling gel.
  • Once injected, it gently prompts your body's own cells (fibroblasts) to lay down new collagen.
  • Over the following weeks and months, this new collagen gradually restores firmness, volume and support.
  • The PLLA itself is slowly and safely broken down by your body — what remains is your own collagen.
Important — Sculptra is NOT an instant filler. Unlike hyaluronic-acid (HA) filler, you will not walk out with your final result. Any early plumpness is simply from the fluid it's mixed with and settles within days; the real result develops gradually over 6–12 weeks and continues to improve across your course of sessions.

Where Sculptra can be used

Sculptra is used on both the face and the body. The techniques, dilution and aftercare differ between the two, so your practitioner will tailor everything to your chosen area.

Face — gradual volume & contour

  • Temples (hollowing at the sides of the forehead)
  • Cheeks & mid-face volume loss
  • Jawline definition & the lower face
  • Softening of nasolabial folds & marionette lines
  • Overall skin firmness & a fresher, rested look

Body — lift, firmness & skin quality

  • Buttocks — a non-surgical lift, shape & smoothing of dimpling
  • Décolletage (chest) — crêpey, lined skin
  • Thighs & knees — laxity & skin quality
  • Upper arms — mild crêpiness
  • Improvement of overall skin texture in the area

Body treatments (particularly the buttocks) usually require more product and more sessions than the face, because the area is larger. This is discussed and planned at your consultation.

Why clients love Sculptra

It looks natural

Because you're rebuilding your own collagen gradually, there's no sudden "done" look — just a slow, subtle refresh.

It restores, rather than just fills

Sculptra rebuilds underlying structure and firmness, improving the quality of the skin itself, not only its volume.

It lasts

Because the result is your own collagen, it is long-lasting — commonly up to around 2 years — far longer than many temporary fillers.

It works for the body too

Few treatments can improve buttock shape and crêpey chest, thigh and arm skin without surgery — Sculptra is one of them.

Is Sculptra right for me?

You may be a good candidate if you

  • Have gradual volume loss (face) or skin laxity / lost shape (body)
  • Want a natural, gradual improvement rather than an instant change
  • Are happy to commit to a course of sessions and wait for results
  • Are in good general health
  • Have realistic expectations

Sculptra is NOT suitable if you

  • Are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding
  • Have an active infection or inflammation in the area
  • Have an autoimmune or connective-tissue condition (needs review)
  • Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
  • Have a history of granulomas or nodules from injectables
  • Are allergic to any component of the product
  • Want a large, instant "one-and-done" result (HA filler or surgery may suit better)

A consultation determines suitability, and treatment may be declined if it is not safe or appropriate for you.

Your course of sessions

Sculptra is almost always given as a course, not a single treatment. Building collagen takes time, and it's done in stages to reach a natural, balanced result.

What to expect

  • Typically 2–4 sessions, spaced roughly 4–6 weeks apart.
  • The face usually needs fewer sessions and vials; the body (especially buttocks) usually needs more.
  • Your exact plan is personalised at consultation and may be adjusted as your collagen responds.

When will I see results — and how long do they last?

This is the most important thing to understand before you begin: Sculptra is gradual.

Day 1–3

A little temporary plumpness from the fluid — this settles and is not your result.

Week 1–2

Any early volume has settled; the area may look as it did before. This is expected.

Week 6–12

New collagen becomes visible — gradual firmness & volume begin to appear.

Across the course

Results build with each session for a natural, cumulative improvement.

Up to ~2 years

Results are long-lasting; top-ups maintain them over time.

A guide only — everyone responds at their own pace, and results vary and are not guaranteed.

What happens during treatment?

Consultation & planning

We assess the area, discuss your goals and design a personalised course. Photographs are taken to track progress.

Preparation

The area is cleansed thoroughly. The Sculptra is reconstituted (hydrated) in advance by the clinic and mixed with a little local anaesthetic for comfort.

Treatment

The product is injected with a fine needle or cannula into the correct layer. Body areas such as the buttocks take longer than the face because they are larger.

Massage

Afterwards you'll be shown how to massage the area — the well-known "rule of 5s". This is important and is covered in your aftercare guide.

Downtime & common side effects

Downtime is usually minimal — most people return to normal activities the same or next day — but it's normal to have some tenderness for a few days.

Common & temporary

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Tenderness
  • Redness
  • Small firm areas or lumps in the first days (usually settle with massage)
  • Mild aching in the area

For the buttocks and other body areas, plan for a little more tenderness and avoid prolonged sitting or pressure early on — see your aftercare guide.

Risks & complications

No injectable treatment is completely risk-free. Sculptra is well established and generally very safe, but you should understand the risks fully — we explain everything at your consultation.

Common & temporary

  • Swelling, bruising, redness
  • Tenderness & mild pain
  • Small early lumps or bumps
  • Itching at injection sites

Less common / more serious

  • Delayed-onset nodules or papules — small firm lumps that can appear weeks to months later (the key Sculptra-specific risk)
  • Granuloma (a persistent inflammatory lump)
  • Visible or palpable lumpiness / unevenness
  • Infection
  • Vascular occlusion (filler blocking a blood vessel) — rarer with PLLA than with HA filler, but possible
  • Asymmetry or an under- / over-corrected result needing further treatment
  • Allergic reaction (rare)

Delayed nodules — what to know

The most talked-about Sculptra risk is delayed-onset nodules: small firm lumps that can develop weeks or months after treatment. Correct injection technique, proper dilution and following the massage ("rule of 5s") instructions all help reduce this risk. Most nodules are minor and treatable — always tell us if you notice a new lump, and seek urgent care if a lump becomes painful, red or hot.

Who should not have Sculptra

Sculptra is not suitable if you

  • Are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding
  • Have an active infection, inflammation or skin condition in the area
  • Have an autoimmune or connective-tissue disease (needs individual assessment)
  • Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
  • Have had granulomas or nodules from previous injectables
  • Are allergic to poly-L-lactic acid or any product component
  • Have a permanent filler already in the area

Always tell us about your full medical history, medications and previous treatments — withholding information can increase your risk.

Alternatives to Sculptra

Sculptra isn't the only option — part of a good consultation is making sure it's the right option for you. Alternatives include:

Other approaches

  • HA dermal filler — instant volume, but temporary and space-filling rather than collagen-building
  • Fat transfer — surgical, uses your own fat
  • Surgery — e.g. facelift or surgical buttock procedures for significant change

And of course

  • Doing nothing — a perfectly valid choice, with no risk
  • Good skincare, SPF & lifestyle to support your natural collagen

What our clients say

★★★★★

"Husna explained really clearly that Sculptra is gradual, so I never panicked when I didn't see much at first. By about two months my cheeks looked so much fresher — and completely natural. She checked in throughout and reminded me about the massage."

— Aisha
★★★★★

"I had Sculptra for skin quality on my chest and thighs. The honesty was refreshing — she was clear it would take a few sessions and wasn't an instant fix. The improvement over the following months was lovely and looked like my own skin, just better."

— Danielle

Frequently asked questions

Is Sculptra a filler?

Not in the usual sense. HA fillers add instant volume by physically filling a space. Sculptra is a collagen stimulator — it prompts your body to build its own new collagen gradually, so the result is natural and long-lasting rather than instant.

Why don't I see a result straight away?

Because collagen takes time to form. Any early plumpness is just the fluid the product is mixed with, and it settles within days. Your real result appears gradually over 6–12 weeks and builds across your course.

How many sessions will I need?

Typically 2–4 sessions, about 4–6 weeks apart. The face often needs fewer; the body (especially buttocks) usually needs more. We'll confirm your plan at consultation.

How long do results last?

Because it's your own collagen, results are long-lasting — commonly up to around 2 years. Top-ups help maintain them.

Does it hurt?

It's very manageable. The product is mixed with local anaesthetic, and a fine needle or cannula is used. Body areas can feel a little more tender.

What is the "rule of 5s" massage?

After treatment you gently massage the treated area — traditionally about 5 times a day, for 5 minutes, for 5 days. This helps distribute the product evenly and reduces the risk of lumps. Your practitioner's exact instructions take precedence, and the buttock protocol may differ. It's all in your aftercare guide.

Can I have it on my buttocks instead of surgery?

Sculptra can give a subtle, natural non-surgical lift and improve shape and skin quality. It won't replicate a large surgical augmentation, but for many clients it's a lovely, lower-risk option. It usually needs more product and more sessions than facial treatment.

What's the main risk?

The Sculptra-specific risk to know is delayed-onset nodules — small firm lumps that can appear weeks to months later. Good technique, correct dilution and doing your massage all reduce this. Always tell us about any new lump.

How much does it cost?

It's tailored to you, so pricing is £POA — confirmed at consultation once we know your area, number of vials and sessions. A deposit secures your appointment and comes off your total.

How do I know if I'm suitable?

The easiest way is a quick, no-obligation consultation (or a WhatsApp message). We'll honestly tell you whether Sculptra is right for you, or if another treatment would suit you better.
