Please follow these instructions carefully after treatment. Fat-dissolving injections produce a controlled inflammatory response within the treated fatty tissue, so temporary swelling, tenderness and firmness can be expected.
The exact ingredients and aftercare vary between products. Lipo Lab PPC is marketed as containing phosphatidylcholine and sodium deoxycholate (with other listed ingredients including L-carnitine and sodium hyaluronate). Several products use similar 'V-Line' names and their formulations are not interchangeable — the exact product name, manufacturer, ingredients, batch number and expiry date must be recorded. Instructions given by your practitioner for your exact product, amount and treatment area take priority over this general guide.
Clinic contact
Contact the clinic promptly if you are concerned about any symptom, even if you are unsure whether it is normal.
For a non-urgent concern, or if you are unsure whether something needs attention, you can also call NHS 111 (free, 24/7).
Call 999 or attend A&E for difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe allergic-reaction symptoms, sudden chest pain, serious neurological symptoms or collapse.
Day by day — what to expect & how to manage it
01
Day of treatment
Swelling, tenderness, bruising and firmness can be normal. Rest, wear loose clothing, and keep a sugary drink to hand in case you feel faint.
02
Days 1–3
Swelling often peaks; the chin can look bigger before it improves.
03
Days 3–7
Swelling & bruising ease; you can return to gentle activity.
04
Weeks 1–4
Firmness & lumps settle as inflammation resolves.
05
Weeks 4–8 & review
The fat gradually reduces; you are assessed before any further session.
A guide only — everyone heals at their own pace.
Managing your symptoms at home
Temporary swelling, tenderness and firmness are expected — here's how to stay comfortable:
Helps
- A clean, wrapped cool pack in short bursts for swelling & discomfort
- Loose, comfortable clothing; sleep with your head slightly raised after chin treatment
- Soft foods if chewing feels sore after chin treatment
- Paracetamol if you need pain relief (if normally safe for you)
- Drink water and keep a sugary drink to hand if you feel faint
- Gentle short walks to keep moving
Skip
- Squeezing, draining or aggressively massaging lumps
- Massage guns, rollers and suction devices
- Heat — saunas, hot baths, hot-water bottles over the area
- Alcohol and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours
- Tight compression or shapewear unless we've told you to wear it
Swelling can rise for 24–72 hours before settling, and the chin often looks fuller before it slims. Contact us straight away for any difficulty swallowing or breathing, pale/grey/blue/mottled skin, a hot or rapidly enlarging painful lump, or spreading swelling.
What is normal after treatment?
Normal
During the initial recovery period, it may be normal to experience:
Completely normal
- Swelling
- Tenderness or soreness
- Redness
- Mild warmth
- Bruising
- Stinging or burning
- Itching
- Temporary firmness
- Small lumps or nodules
- A tight or heavy sensation
- Temporary numbness or altered sensation
- Small injection marks
- Minor spotting at an injection point
- Temporary asymmetry caused by swelling
- Mild discomfort when touching or moving the area
Swelling may increase during the first 24–72 hours before settling. The chin can develop significant swelling, which may temporarily make the double chin look larger rather than smaller. Body areas may feel bruised, firm and tender for several days. Fat-dissolving products containing phosphatidylcholine or deoxycholate have been associated with painful nodules, inflammation, infection, tissue injury, scarring and contour changes; the FDA has warned about reported injuries from unapproved products marketed under names including Lipo Lab. Contact Layali Clinic if symptoms are severe, rapidly worsening or not beginning to improve as expected.
Do not judge your final result immediately. Initial swelling and firmness may temporarily affect the shape and symmetry of the treated area.
Immediately after treatment
Do
- Keep the injection sites clean
- Wash your hands before touching the area
- Wear clean, loose clothing after body treatment
- Rest if you feel light-headed
- Drink water and stay hydrated
- Use a clean, wrapped cool pack if advised
- Keep your treatment information & clinic details available
- Follow personalised dressing or positioning instructions
Do not
- Rub, scratch or repeatedly press the area
- Squeeze or drain a lump
- Apply creams, oils or fake tan over open points
- Apply ice directly to the skin
- Use an unclean reusable cooling pack
- Use a massage gun, roller or suction device
- Let another person manipulate the tissue
- Apply strong compression unless instructed
- Take leftover antibiotics or prescription medication
Cooling
Where cooling has been recommended, wrap the pack, apply it briefly with light contact, take breaks between applications, and stop if the area becomes excessively numb or uncomfortable.
Do not
- Apply ice directly to the skin
- Use heavy pressure
- Leave a frozen pack on for a long time
- Fall asleep with a pack on
- Apply cooling over pale, blue, purple, blistered or damaged skin
Injection-site care
Until the injection points have closed: keep them clean, avoid touching them, avoid scrubbing or exfoliating, use clean towels, pat dry, avoid fragranced products, do not pick scabs, do not squeeze fluid, and do not insert a needle into a lump.
Contact the clinic if a site
- Continues bleeding
- Opens or leaks
- Produces pus or smells
- Becomes increasingly red, hot, swollen or painful
- Blisters or develops an open wound
- Is not healing
Washing, bathing & swimming
Shower with lukewarm water and avoid very hot water. Do not scrub. Until the points close, avoid baths, swimming pools, hot tubs, the sea, saunas and steam rooms, and do not use exfoliating gloves or brushes. Pat the skin dry.
Restart swimming only when the points are fully closed with no redness, leaking, open skin or infection.
Exercise & physical activity
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours, or longer if the area remains swollen, painful or bruised. During early recovery, avoid:
Avoid
- Running
- Heavy weights
- High-intensity interval training
- Hot yoga
- Contact sports
- Vigorous cycling
- Intense abdominal exercise after abdominal treatment
- Squats or lunges after thigh treatment if painful
- Heavy upper-body exercise after arm treatment
- Activities that rub or compress the area
Gentle walking is fine. Lipo Lab guidance advises avoiding strenuous exercise for approximately 1–2 days.
Stop & contact the clinic if activity causes
- Increasing pain
- Sudden swelling
- Bleeding
- Fluid leakage
- A new painful lump
- Skin-colour changes
- Weakness or numbness
- A sudden contour change
Heat & sun
Until the area has settled, avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, sunbeds, very hot baths or showers, heated body treatments, heat pads, hot-water bottles, intense sun and extreme cold.
Use sun protection once the points close.
Alcohol, smoking & medication
Alcohol: avoid for 24–48 hours and while bruising or swelling remain.
Smoking & nicotine: avoid or reduce cigarettes, vaping, shisha, pouches and other nicotine.
Medication:
- Do not stop prescribed medication without advice
- Do not stop blood thinners on the clinic's advice alone
- Do not take extra anti-inflammatories unless normally safe for you and approved
- Do not take leftover antibiotics
- Do not use an unprescribed steroid or antibiotic cream
- Do not use another person's medication
Severe, increasing or disproportionate pain must not simply be covered with pain relief. Contact Layali Clinic immediately.
Massage instructions
Do not massage the area unless specifically instructed, do not assume the body and chin need the same approach, do not aggressively massage swelling or lumps, do not use a massage gun, do not use cupping or suction, do not have lymphatic drainage without approval, and do not copy social-media routines.
Lipo Lab advises avoiding hard massage. Where massage is prescribed, your practitioner explains when to begin, the area, the pressure, the duration, the frequency and when to stop.
Stop & contact the clinic if massage causes
- Severe or increasing pain
- Increasing redness or heat
- Significant swelling
- Skin-colour changes
- Blistering
- Bleeding
- Fluid leakage
- Increasing numbness
- A rapidly enlarging lump
Lipo Lab PPC body aftercare
Lipo Lab PPC is marketed for body contouring (phosphatidylcholine + sodium deoxycholate); common areas: abdomen, love handles, back, arms, hips and thighs. After body treatment:
After body treatment
- Wear loose clothing
- Avoid tight waistbands, belts or seams
- Avoid tight jeans or leggings over thigh treatment
- Avoid restrictive sleeves after arm treatment
- Avoid waist trainers & tight shapewear
- Avoid tight compression unless instructed
- Avoid repeated pressure over painful areas
- Avoid body massage unless approved
- Avoid body-contouring devices while healing
- Change position regularly if sitting presses the area
Contact the clinic if clothing or pressure causes
- Increasing pain
- Deep pressure marks
- Numbness
- Skin-colour changes
- A visible indentation
- Increasing swelling
- A change in contour
Body swelling & tenderness
Body treatment may produce localised swelling, a bruised sensation, firmness, tender lumps, temporary unevenness, sensitivity when clothing touches the area, and discomfort with movement.
Contact the clinic if body swelling
- Is rapidly increasing
- Becomes very tense
- Is much worse on one side
- Is accompanied by severe pain
- Is accompanied by skin-colour changes
- Returns after settling
- Is accompanied by fever or feeling unwell
- Is not improving
V Line Slim chin aftercare
Treatment beneath the chin can produce marked swelling. During early recovery:
During early recovery
- Keep the area clean
- Avoid rubbing or massaging unless instructed
- Do not rest your chin heavily in your hands
- Avoid tight chin straps
- Avoid tight helmet straps under the jaw
- Avoid tight scarves or garments around the neck
- Sleep with your head slightly elevated the first night if comfortable
- Avoid lying face-down
- Avoid prolonged pressure against the chin
- Eat softer foods if chewing is uncomfortable
- Avoid aggressive neck massage
- Do not repeatedly pinch or examine the treated fat
Do not judge the result while swelling is present. Deoxycholic-acid chin treatments are known to cause swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and firmness; swallowing difficulty and nerve injury affecting the smile are recognised complications. Because 'V Line Slim' may refer to different formulations, the exact ingredient list must be checked before applying deoxycholic-acid-specific advice.

Tell the emergency team you recently received fat-dissolving injections, the exact product, whether body or chin, the date and time, the amount injected, and the clinic and practitioner details.
Other treatments
Do not have another treatment over the area until it has healed and Layali Clinic has confirmed. Avoid arranging further fat-dissolving, massage, lymphatic drainage, cupping, cryolipolysis, HIFU, Titan X, radiofrequency, endolaser, laser, microneedling, dermal filler, PDO threads, cosmetic surgery or liposuction. Tell future practitioners the exact product, treatment date, area, amount injected and any complication.
When results develop
Results develop gradually. Do not judge the result during swelling. The outcome depends on the product, its ingredients and concentration, the amount used, the area, the fat thickness, the number of sessions, skin laxity, weight stability, the inflammatory response and the technique.
Do not assume one session suffices, that every lump means untreated fat, that early asymmetry needs more injections, that it tightens loose skin, or that results are guaranteed or permanent. Allow healing and clinical review before another session.
Repeat sessions
Do not repeat treatment while the area is swollen, painful, bruised, firm or inflamed, red or hot, numb, infected, open or damaged, or under investigation. The interval between sessions is based on the product's instructions, the area, the amount, your recovery, assessment and an insurer-approved protocol.
Do not use a generic two-week interval for every product; submental deoxycholic-acid medicines may use longer intervals.
