After Your Treatment

Endolaser Face & Body Contouring Aftercare

For minimally invasive subdermal fibre-laser skin tightening and localised fat reduction.

Please follow these instructions carefully after your treatment. Appropriate aftercare helps protect the fibre-entry points, control swelling and identify possible complications promptly.

Endolaser involves passing a fine optical fibre beneath the skin to deliver laser energy into the subdermal tissue; depending on the wavelength, settings and plan it may target localised fat and stimulate tissue tightening. Protocols are not fully standardised, so your personalised instructions and the current guidance for the exact device used take priority over generic online advice.

Clinic contact

Your recovery, step by step

01
Day of treatment

Swelling, bruising, tenderness and numbness from the anaesthetic are expected. Rest, keep the entry points clean, and keep your head elevated after face or neck treatment.

02
Days 1–3

Swelling may rise before it eases. Keep dressings on as advised and take gentle regular walks to keep the circulation moving.

03
Days 3–7

Bruising begins to fade. Ease back into daily life gently, and wear any compression garment if it has been prescribed.

04
Weeks 1–4

Firmness and altered sensation gradually settle, and the skin begins tightening as new collagen forms.

05
Weeks–months

Tightening and contour continue to develop over the following months. Attend your review so we can track your progress.

A guide only — everyone heals at their own pace.

Managing your symptoms at home

Swelling, bruising, firmness and numbness are expected early on — here's how to stay comfortable and support healing:

Helps

  • Keep the fibre-entry points clean & dry, with dressings left on as advised
  • Rest, and keep your head slightly elevated after face or neck treatment
  • A clean, wrapped cool pack applied lightly (no firm pressure)
  • Loose clothing; wear any prescribed compression garment exactly as instructed
  • Gentle regular walking to keep the circulation moving
  • Paracetamol if you need pain relief, and complete any antibiotics we prescribe

Skip

  • Massage unless we've prescribed it; don't squeeze or drain fluid
  • Heat — saunas, hot baths, hot-water bottles over the area
  • Alcohol for 24–48 hours and strenuous exercise beyond your plan
  • Driving while numb, drowsy or affected by medication
  • Ice directly on the skin, and tight garments over numb skin
Swelling and firmness settle gradually over weeks. Contact us straight away for a burn or blister, skin turning pale/grey/blue/purple, an entry point that keeps leaking or opens, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or new one-sided calf/leg pain or swelling with breathlessness (possible clot — call 999 if severe).

What is normal after treatment?

Normal

During the initial recovery period, it may be normal to experience:

Completely normal

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Tenderness or soreness
  • Mild warmth
  • Tightness
  • A bruised or aching sensation beneath the skin
  • Temporary firmness
  • Temporary lumpiness
  • Mild itching
  • Small fibre-entry marks
  • Minor blood or clear fluid spotting from an entry point
  • Temporary numbness
  • Tingling or altered sensation
  • Sensitivity when touching or moving the area
  • Mild asymmetry from swelling
  • Temporary contour irregularity while the tissues settle

Swelling can increase during the first 24–72 hours before improving. Some residual swelling, firmness or altered sensation may continue for several weeks, particularly after a larger body treatment. Bruising, swelling, soreness, numbness, minimal bleeding and temporary firmness are recognised after minimally invasive laser-lipolysis; thermal burns, infection, haematoma and seroma are less common but important complications. Do not assess the final result during the early swelling period.

Do not judge your final result during the early swelling period. Initial swelling and firmness may temporarily affect the shape, size and symmetry of the treated area.

Immediately after treatment

Do

  • Rest for the remainder of the day
  • Keep the area and entry points clean
  • Wash your hands before touching the area
  • Wear clean, loose clothing after body treatment
  • Keep your head elevated after face or neck treatment if comfortable
  • Take short, gentle walks
  • Drink fluids and stay hydrated
  • Take prescribed medication as directed
  • Keep your treatment information and clinic number available
  • Arrange for a responsible adult to stay with you if advised

Do not

  • Rub, scratch or repeatedly press the area
  • Massage unless specifically instructed
  • Drain fluid or squeeze an entry point
  • Apply creams, oils, perfume or fake tan over open points
  • Apply direct heat
  • Apply ice directly to the skin
  • Use a massage gun, suction or body-contouring tool
  • Drive if faint, numb, drowsy or affected by medication
  • Drink alcohol on the day of treatment

Local anaesthetic & numbness

The local anaesthetic may cause temporary numbness, tingling, heaviness, reduced sensation, temporary uneven movement, and mild dizziness or light-headedness. Until normal sensation returns:

Take care to

  • Take care with hot food and drinks
  • Avoid applying heat
  • Not press or scratch numb skin
  • Not drive if facial movement, vision, alertness or body movement is affected
  • Take care chewing after lower-face treatment
  • Check that tight garments are not damaging numb skin

Contact the clinic if numbness is increasing, extensive, associated with weakness, or not improving. Call 999 for sudden weakness with difficulty speaking, confusion, a severe headache or arm or leg weakness.

Fibre-entry point care

For the period advised by your practitioner, keep the entry points clean and dry, leave dressings or Steri-Strips in place, do not repeatedly lift dressings, do not reuse a removed dressing, wash your hands before changing a dressing, use only clean approved dressings, do not pick scabs, do not insert anything into the point, apply no makeup over an open facial point, and apply no body lotion, oil or fake tan over an open body point. A small amount of clear, pink or blood-stained fluid may occur; follow your practitioner's instructions on normal drainage.

Contact the clinic if an entry point

  • Continues bleeding
  • Opens or enlarges
  • Produces increasing fluid
  • Produces yellow or green discharge
  • Smells unpleasant
  • Becomes increasingly red, hot, swollen or painful
  • Blisters
  • Develops an open wound
  • Is not healing

Do not squeeze or drain an entry point yourself.

Showering, bathing & hygiene

When washing is permitted, use lukewarm water, keep the shower brief, avoid strong pressure at the entry points, do not scrub, do not use an exfoliating glove or brush, pat the skin dry, and replace wet dressings as instructed. Until the entry points close, avoid:

Please avoid

  • Baths
  • Swimming pools
  • Hot tubs
  • The sea
  • Saunas
  • Steam rooms
  • Communal spa facilities

Contact the clinic if an entry point leaks, bleeds or opens after washing.

Cooling

Where cooling has been recommended, wrap a cool pack, apply it briefly with very light pressure, take breaks between applications, and stop if the area becomes excessively numb or uncomfortable.

Do not

  • Apply ice directly to the skin
  • Leave a frozen pack on for a long time
  • Apply strong pressure
  • Place a cool pack over blistered, pale, blue, purple or damaged skin
  • Fall asleep with a cool pack on

Cooling should not delay assessment of severe pain, colour change or possible tissue damage.

Facial Endolaser aftercare

Facial treatment may cause facial swelling, jawline tenderness, tightness, temporary firmness, mild bruising, temporary asymmetry, tingling or numbness, sensitivity when chewing or speaking, tenderness over the jawbone and temporary heaviness. During early recovery:

During early recovery

  • Sleep on your back
  • Keep your head slightly elevated for 1–2 nights
  • Avoid sleeping on the treated side
  • Do not rest your chin heavily in your hand
  • Avoid tight chin straps or facial compression unless prescribed
  • Avoid facial massage unless instructed
  • Avoid gua sha and rollers
  • Do not repeatedly test facial movement
  • Use gentle skincare
  • Avoid forceful neck stretching after jawline or neck treatment

Contact the clinic promptly for

  • Increasing facial weakness
  • A new uneven smile
  • Lower-lip weakness
  • Eyebrow or eyelid drooping
  • Difficulty closing an eye
  • Significant chewing difficulty
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Severe nerve-like pain
  • Extensive or increasing numbness
  • A rapidly developing contour change

Eye & periorbital treatment

Mild swelling, bruising or tenderness may occur. Contact the clinic urgently for significant or increasing eyelid swelling, difficulty opening or closing an eye, persistent eye pain, severe temple pain, eyelid or eyebrow drooping, blurred or double vision, new blind spots, or any visual disturbance.

Call 999 or seek immediate emergency assessment for sudden loss of vision, severe visual disturbance, sudden neurological symptoms, or a severe headache with weakness or confusion. Do not apply pressure or massage around the eye.

Chin & neck treatment

Call 999

Temporary swelling, tightness or tenderness may occur. During early recovery, keep your head elevated when resting, avoid tight collars or scarves, avoid strong pressure beneath the chin, avoid aggressive neck massage, avoid forceful neck exercise, choose softer foods if chewing is uncomfortable, and take care with hot food while numb.

Contact the clinic urgently for

  • Rapidly increasing neck swelling
  • Significant difficulty swallowing
  • Coughing or choking while drinking
  • Voice changes
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Severe neck pain
  • Facial or neck weakness
  • A rapidly enlarging lump
  • Significant or continued bleeding
Call 999 immediately if breathing or swallowing is significantly affected.

Body Endolaser aftercare

Body treatment may cause localised swelling, bruising, tenderness, firmness, temporary lumps, a tight or bruised sensation, temporary numbness or tingling, mild fluid drainage from an entry point, temporary differences between sides, and discomfort when moving or when clothing presses on the area. Wear clean, loose clothing and avoid seams, belts or straps over the entry points.

After abdominal treatment

  • Avoid tight waistbands
  • Avoid waist trainers
  • Avoid heavy abdominal exercise
  • Do not repeatedly pinch or press the area

After arm treatment

  • Avoid tight sleeves
  • Avoid carrying heavy bags against the area
  • Return to upper-body exercise gradually

After thigh, hip or buttock treatment

  • Avoid tight jeans or leggings
  • Avoid prolonged pressure if uncomfortable
  • Return to squats, lunges and hip thrusts gradually
  • Avoid massage guns and aggressive body massage

Compression garments

A compression garment may be prescribed after body Endolaser to manage swelling; it is not automatically required for every treatment, particularly on the face. Only wear compression if your practitioner has confirmed the correct garment, size, areas, daily schedule, when it may be removed and how long to wear it.

The garment should feel supportive but must not cause severe pain, numbness, worsening tingling, white, blue or purple skin, cold skin, deep persistent marks, breathing difficulty, new contour indentations, or increased swelling above or below it — remove it and contact us if these occur.

Massage & lymphatic drainage

Requirements depend on the area, whether fat was treated, swelling, whether suction was performed, entry-point healing, technique and any complication. Do not massage unless instructed. Where gentle lymphatic drainage is prescribed: begin only on the date provided; use a trained post-procedure practitioner; use gentle pressure; avoid pressure over open points; avoid aggressive kneading; avoid massage guns, rollers, cupping and suction; and stop if there is increasing pain, swelling or colour change.

Your prescribed plan

  • No massage required
  • Gentle self-massage prescribed
  • Professional lymphatic drainage prescribed

Do not massage an area that is very painful, rapidly swelling, hot or increasingly red, blistered, leaking, open, pale, grey, blue, purple or black, suspected to be infected, or suspected to contain a haematoma or seroma.

Exercise & movement

Gentle walking is encouraged. Avoid strenuous exercise for the period set out on your plan, which depends on the size and location of the treatment. During early recovery, avoid:

Avoid

  • Running
  • Heavy weights
  • HIIT
  • Hot yoga
  • Contact sports
  • Heavy abdominal exercises
  • Heavy glute exercises
  • Exercise causing significant pain or rubbing
  • Swimming before the points close

Return to activity gradually.

Stop & contact the clinic if activity causes

  • Increasing pain
  • Sudden swelling
  • Bleeding
  • Fluid leakage
  • A new painful lump
  • Significant numbness
  • Skin-colour changes
  • Weakness
  • Shortness of breath

Heat & sun

Until the area has settled, avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, sunbeds, very hot baths, heat pads, hot-water bottles, heated blankets over the area, heated car seats against a treated body area, intense sun and extreme cold.

After facial treatment, use broad-spectrum sun protection once the entry points close. Protect bruised or inflamed skin from deliberate tanning.

Makeup & skincare

After facial treatment, wait until the entry points close before applying makeup. When restarting, wash your hands, use clean brushes and applicators, apply gently, avoid dragging or rubbing, and do not apply over an open, blistered or leaking point. Until any irritation settles, avoid:

Avoid

  • Retinol or tretinoin
  • Strong acids
  • Chemical exfoliants
  • Scrubs
  • Cleansing brushes
  • Strong vitamin C
  • Waxing or threading
  • Dermaplaning
  • Home microneedling
  • Strongly fragranced skincare

Use a gentle cleanser, a simple moisturiser and a suitable sunscreen.

Alcohol, smoking & medication

Alcohol: avoid for 24–48 hours and while bruising or swelling remain.

Smoking & nicotine: avoid or reduce cigarettes, vaping, shisha, pouches and other nicotine.

Medication:

Severe, increasing or disproportionate pain should not simply be covered with pain medication. Contact Layali Clinic immediately.

Swelling, firmness & temporary lumps

Swelling, firmness and temporary lumps can make the area look uneven early on.

Do not

  • Repeatedly pinch the area
  • Aggressively massage lumps
  • Insert a needle
  • Drain the area
  • Add another treatment before review
  • Use an energy or body-contouring device

Arrange an assessment for

  • A painful lump
  • A rapidly enlarging lump
  • A hard area becoming larger
  • A warm or red lump
  • A soft, fluid-filled swelling
  • A lump with fever or illness
  • Persistent or worsening asymmetry
  • Skin thinning or colour change over a lump
  • A contour defect that develops suddenly

Seroma

A seroma is a collection of clear fluid beneath the skin.

Signs of a seroma

  • A soft or fluid-filled swelling
  • A wave-like sensation when the area moves
  • Persistent localised fullness
  • Increasing asymmetry
  • Fluid leaking from an entry point
  • A swelling that returns after pressure is released

A seroma is a recognised complication of invasive fat-contouring and laser-assisted procedures; it may need examination, ultrasound, aspiration or other treatment. Do not squeeze, drain, insert a needle, aggressively massage or over-tighten a garment. Contact Layali Clinic for a face-to-face assessment.

Other cosmetic & medical treatments

Do not have another procedure over the area until it has been reviewed and confirmed as healed. Avoid:

Avoid until reviewed

  • Further Endolaser
  • HIFU or Titan X
  • Radiofrequency
  • Cryolipolysis
  • Fat-dissolving injections
  • Dermal filler
  • Skin boosters
  • PDO threads

  • Cupping
  • Other body-contouring devices
  • Cosmetic surgery

Tell future practitioners that Endolaser was performed, the date, the area, the wavelength, whether fat suction was performed, and any complication.

Results & recovery timeline

Results are not immediate; early swelling can conceal the result. Improvement develops gradually as swelling settles, treated fat is processed, firmness improves and collagen remodels. Tissue tightening can continue for several months, and final contour assessment may take weeks to months.

Your outcome depends on the area, tissue thickness, skin quality, laxity, localised fat, the device and wavelength, the fibre size, the energy delivered, the number of sessions and individual healing and weight stability.

Results vary and cannot be guaranteed. Endolaser is not a substitute for major weight loss or surgical removal of significant loose skin.

Follow-up

Attend each review. Your follow-up may include:

At your review we may

  • Examine the entry points
  • Assess swelling and bruising
  • Check skin colour and temperature
  • Check sensation
  • Assess facial movement
  • Examine for seroma or haematoma
  • Check for burns or skin injury
  • Take clinical photos
  • Check garment fit
  • Give lymphatic-drainage instructions
  • Assess contour and tightening
  • Record any adverse reaction

Do not wait for a routine appointment if you have symptoms of a possible complication.
