Non-surgical breast filler is best thought of as a subtle enhancement and definition treatment — not an alternative to a surgical implant.
It uses hyaluronic acid (HA), the same family of gel filler used elsewhere on the body, injected into the chest to add gentle volume, soften the appearance of cleavage, or improve minor asymmetry and the look of the upper pole (the top part of the breast). It will not create the dramatic size increase of an implant, and the result is temporary.
No implants
No surgery
No general anaesthetic
This is an elective, non-surgical cosmetic treatment. Suitability is assessed at a face-to-face consultation, and treatment may be declined if it is not safe or appropriate for you.
How does HA breast filler work?
Hyaluronic acid is a soft, water-loving gel that occurs naturally in the body. When placed into the tissue of the chest, it adds volume in that area and can gently lift and define the shape of the upper breast and cleavage.
What it can gently do
- Add subtle volume to the upper chest / décolletage
- Soften and define the appearance of cleavage
- Improve minor asymmetry between the two sides
- Add a little fullness to the upper pole of the breast
- Restore a small amount of lost volume (e.g. after weight loss or breastfeeding)
Because the chest is a large area, breast filler typically uses large volumes of product across more than one session, and the effect builds gradually. It is not the same as, and does not replace, a breast implant.
Is breast filler right for me?
You may be suitable if you
- Want a subtle, natural enhancement rather than a dramatic size increase
- Would like softer, more defined cleavage
- Have minor asymmetry you'd like improved
- Are in good general health
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Understand the result is temporary and subtle
- Have realistic expectations
It is NOT suitable if you
- Want a large "implant-sized" increase (surgery is more appropriate)
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive
- Have any breast lump, undiagnosed change, or a history of breast cancer not cleared by your specialist
- Are due breast screening / mammogram (filler can affect imaging — tell your screening team)
- Have an active infection or skin condition on the chest
- Have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners (unless cleared)
- Have an autoimmune or immune-affecting condition
- Have unrealistic expectations
Important: breast filler is not a substitute for breast screening or for having any lump or change checked by your GP. If you notice a new lump, skin change or discharge, please see your GP before considering any cosmetic treatment. Always tell any future mammogram or ultrasound team that you have had filler in the chest.
A consultation will determine suitability, and treatment may be declined if it is not safe or appropriate.
Expected benefits & realistic results
The aim is a soft, natural improvement — you in a slightly fuller, more defined version, not a transformation.
Realistic benefits
- A modest increase in fullness of the upper chest
- Softer, more defined cleavage
- Subtle improvement in minor asymmetry
- No scars, no implant, no general anaesthetic
- Minimal downtime compared with surgery
Please be realistic: the change is subtle. Filler cannot lift a significantly sagging breast, cannot achieve a large cup-size jump, and results vary from person to person. No result is guaranteed.
Sessions, timing & how long it lasts
Sessions needed
- Often more than one session to build volume safely and gradually
- A top-up is commonly needed a few weeks after the first session
When results appear
- An immediate change, partly masked by swelling
- Settles and looks natural over roughly 2–6 weeks
How long it lasts
- Typically around 12–18 months, sometimes longer, depending on the product, your metabolism and lifestyle
- It gradually breaks down naturally — maintenance top-ups keep the result
Downtime
- Most people return to normal daily activities the same or next day
- Swelling, bruising and tenderness for several days to ~2 weeks
- No strenuous chest exercise, heat or swimming for 1–2 weeks
Common side effects
Most people experience only temporary, expected effects that settle on their own:
Common & temporary
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Tenderness & soreness
- Redness at injection points
- Firmness or the feeling of the filler under the skin
- Temporary shape change while swelling settles
- Mild discomfort when lying on your front or during exercise for a week or two
Important risks & complications
Breast filler uses large volumes injected into deeper tissue of the chest, so it carries a higher risk profile than small facial filler. No procedure is risk-free. We explain all of this fully at your consultation and in the consent form.
Less common / more serious
- Vascular occlusion — filler blocking a blood vessel, which can cause tissue damage (rare but a medical emergency)
- Infection, abscess or biofilm in the breast tissue — may need antibiotics, drainage or dissolving; can appear weeks or months later
- Lumps, nodules or granulomas — hard areas that may need dissolving or, rarely, surgical management
- Filler migration or shifting with movement and pressure
- Asymmetry, contour irregularity or an uneven result
- Prolonged swelling, pain or sensitivity
- The result being subtle, temporary, or needing further sessions
- Interference with breast screening / mammograms and imaging
- Allergic / hypersensitivity reaction (very rarely, anaphylaxis)
An emergency plan matters. HA filler can be dissolved with an enzyme (hyaluronidase) if needed, and this should be available. If you ever develop severe or increasing pain, colour change, cold or dusky skin, or signs of spreading infection (heat, spreading redness, pus, fever), contact the clinic immediately on 07787 708200 — or, if severe, call 999 / attend A&E.
When breast filler cannot go ahead
Treatment may be restricted or declined if you have:
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Any breast lump, undiagnosed breast change, or a history of breast cancer not cleared by your specialist
- Active infection, fever or illness
- Active skin infection or condition on the chest
- A bleeding disorder or blood-thinning medication (unless cleared)
- An autoimmune or immune-affecting condition
- A known allergy to HA filler, lidocaine or product components
- Previous permanent (non-HA) filler or implants in the area, unless assessed
- Unrealistic expectations
Your alternatives — an honest comparison
Doing nothing
- Always a valid choice
- No cost, no risk
- We will never pressure you
Surgical augmentation (implants)
- The option for a larger, permanent size increase
- Involves surgery, general anaesthetic, scars and recovery
- Carried out by a surgeon, not at this clinic
Fat transfer (lipofilling)
- Uses your own fat, moved from another area, by a surgeon
- A more involved surgical procedure with its own risks
Breast filler sits between "doing nothing" and surgery: it offers a subtle, temporary enhancement without an operation. If you want a large or permanent change, a surgical route is more appropriate and we will happily say so.
Consultation & suitability
A face-to-face consultation is required before any treatment. At this appointment we will:
- Talk through your goals and what is realistically achievable
- Review your medical history, medication and allergies
- Assess the area and check there is nothing that needs a GP or specialist first
- Explain the product, the number of sessions likely, the risks and the aftercare
- Answer all your questions with no pressure to proceed
You will always have time to read the information and ask questions before deciding. You are free to decline or postpone at any point.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as a boob job?
No. It is a non-surgical treatment using dermal filler for subtle enhancement and cleavage definition. It does not use implants, does not involve surgery, and gives a much more modest, temporary result than a surgical augmentation.
How much bigger will I get?
The change is subtle — think softer, fuller cleavage rather than a cup-size jump. If you want a significant or permanent increase, surgery is the appropriate route and we'll tell you honestly.
How long does it last?
Typically around 12–18 months, sometimes longer, depending on the product and your body. It breaks down gradually and can be topped up.
Will I need more than one session?
Usually yes. Volume is built gradually and safely, so a top-up is common after the first session.
Does it hurt?
Local anaesthetic is used and most people find it very manageable. Expect some soreness, swelling and possible bruising for a few days afterwards.
Will it affect a mammogram?
Filler in the chest can show up on and affect breast imaging. Always tell any mammogram or ultrasound team that you have had breast filler. Breast filler is never a substitute for breast screening.
Can it be reversed?
HA filler can usually be dissolved with an enzyme (hyaluronidase) if needed — for example if there is a complication or you're unhappy with the result.
How much does it cost?
Pricing is confirmed at your consultation because the volume and number of sessions are personal to you. A deposit secures your appointment and comes off your total.
What if I decide it's not for me?
There is never any pressure. A consultation is simply expert advice and your questions answered — you're never obliged to book treatment.
